A True Paramount Picture

To celebrate its 100th birthday, Paramount Pictures assembled 116 of the greatest talents ever to work at the studio.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the storied Paramount Pictures, the only studio to still call Hollywood (the L.A. neighborhood, not the state of mind) its home. Founded in 1912 as the Famous Players Film Company, it more than lived up to its billing, claiming silent greats such as Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Gloria Swanson, and Rudolph Valentino, not to mention Cecil B. DeMille, who made all his biblical epics for the studio. With the advent of talkies, and showing a special flair for sophisticated comedy, Paramount added another glittering array of stars to its roster, including Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Gary Cooper, the Marx Brothers, Bob Hope, and writer-director Preston Sturges. In the postwar years, directors Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, William Wyler, and Jerry Lewis applied their craft at Paramount. By the early 60s, like the other studios, Paramount was running out of steam, until wild man Charlie Bluhdorn bought it, in 1966, ushering in a new golden age under production chief Bob Evans, whose hits included Love Story, the first two Godfathers, and Chinatown. Next up was Barry Diller, who, with the help of Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg, turned Paramount into the pre-eminent “high concept” blockbuster factory, releasing cash cows such as the Indiana Jones pictures and a string of hits starring fresh faces such as Tom Cruise and Eddie Murphy. Sumner Redstone’s Viacom bought the studio in 1994. Under studio head Sherry Lansing, the company entered yet another new era, producing bigger and riskier hits such as Titanic, Braveheart, and Forrest Gump, all of which won best-picture Oscars. Brad Grey succeeded her in 2005, and he’s doing O.K., too, having produced 8 out of Paramount’s 10 top-grossing pictures of all time.

Jalouse Magazine Apologizes To Megan Fox

Jalouse Magazine has apologized to actress Megan Fox for misquoting her in their March issue. The French magazine issued the following statement: “In a Jalouse cover story featuring Ms. Megan Fox, we unfortunately misquoted Ms. Fox. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The magazine had quoted Fox as saying that she “wouldn’t trade places with an unattractive girl,” which sparked controversy when it hit the internet. Fox had previously commented on the story by posting on her Facebook that “The actual comment, the context and it’s intention are grossly distorted and misrepresented here. I gave this interview in English obviously, it was then translated to French and now back into English. I’ve never made vapid self serving comments and in contradiction am uncontrollably self deprecating.”

Fox thanked the magazine for apologizing on her Facebook by writing “Thank you Jalouse Magazine for printing the … retraction.”

Here’s the full ‘quote’ Jalouse originally printed:

‘I live well with my image. I cannot complain. I would not trade my place with an unattractive girl.’

‘I hate taking pictures. I never look at them, otherwise I would have to change everything. I prefer not to see any and trust the photographer, who knows his job.. I was never the pretty girl.’

Megan Fox Ranks #8 On Maxim Hot 100 List 2012

Maxim has released their annual Hot 100 list and 26-year-old Israeli model, Bar Refaeli made the number one spot for 2012.

The top three for the Maxim Hot 100 list is Mila Kunis ranked in the number three spot with Olivia Munn ahead of her in number two. The top ten is rounded out by Katy Perry, Olivia Wilde, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Megan Fox, Malin Akerman and Adrianne Palicki.

For the first time in Maxim history, readers were part of the voting and selecting process of the Hot List 100. With readers a part of the process, for the first year a man and a cartoon made it on the list. Stephen Colbert ranked at number 69 and Lois Griffin from Family Guy made 85th rank.

Editor Dan Bova says Maxim put a list of suggestions online but then write-ins were allowed. “The Colbert Nation turned out in force. As we say: Democracy isn’t pretty, but this time, it was downright handsome.”

On the Maxim website it states: “Our fellow Americans: As we’re reminded every four years, democracy is the cornerstone upon which our great land is built. That’s why this year, for the first time in Hot 100 history, we let you, the readers of Maxim, weigh in on who should comprise the definitive list of the world’s most beautiful women. From movie stars to murder suspects to a cartoon, here are the sexy results. God bless America!”

Bova added letting the readers vote has said a lot about what their preferences are. He says that readers just don’t appreciate beautiful women, but also want women with a sense of humor. “Maxim readers not only appreciate a beautiful-looking woman. They like women who have a great sense of fun, who are kind of like guy’s guys. A lot of these women are in comedies or are just big personalities. They’re not above it all. They like to do silly things. And I think our guys respond to a woman who is not only beautiful, she’s also approachable. She would probably be the coolest person on Earth to hang out with.”

Winner of Maxim Hot 100 Bar Refaeli said in a phone call interview from Israel about topping the list, “Every year, it’s a different girl that I look up to. For me to be among them, it’s an honor. I am shocked that among all these beautiful ladies, I’m number one. Thank you so much for voting for me! I’m truly honored. This is the title I will never forget.”
